Wisdom Environmental specializes in finding solutions for difficult to recycle manufacturing byproducts. Our goal is to help clients find cost savings, provide landfill diversion opportunities, and bring those byproducts into the circular economy. Through the years, Wisdom has turned tens of thousands of pounds of waste into byproducts that are used to manufacture other goods.

Steel Shot (Spent & Dust)

Used steel shot abrasives have value for your organization. As a by-product from shot peening and blasting operations, spent steel shot is a valuable recycling opportunity. Wisdom works with manufacturers to identify collection points and develops methods to capture these materials that maximize their value.

Shot blasting and peening machines use a combination of air and screens to clean the shot during operation. As the shot is used, the size of the original shot is reduced due to wear, resulting in smaller, less efficient sizes.

In an effort to save money, many manufacturers feed the smaller-sized steel shot material back into their machines. By doing so, the smaller shot is further abraded and results in steel shot dust. This makes the machines less efficient and creates greater amounts of shot dust by-products that require landfilling and increase costs.

If iron-based products are being blasted, shot dust created can be difficult to recycle. Wisdom specializes in recycling iron-based shot dusts from these processes. If your company is using steel shot to blast products that contain nickel alloys, the resulting dust has even more value.
